Semen Analysis in DC

Struggling to conceive with your partner? Worried about possible infertility? The first step in getting the answers you need is to schedule a semen analysis. Diagnostic testing before fertility treatments provides in-depth details about the health of your sperm.

When Should I Undergo Semen Analysis?

You should undergo a semen analysis if you're under the age of 35 and have been actively trying to conceive without success for the period of one year or longer. For men over the age of 35, a semen analysis should be conducted after six months of trying.

Men who have concerns about their reproductive health and those who have undergone medical treatments that affect fertility could also benefit from a semen analysis.

How Do I Prepare?

There are several things you’ll want to do to prepare for a semen analysis, including:

What Should I Expect During Semen Analysis

A semen analysis is pretty straightforward. After arriving for your appointment, you’ll talk with the doctor and ask any questions you may have. Then you’ll be given a sterile container to collect your sample. This can be done in office or at home.

Once the sample has been provided, it will be labeled and sent to a laboratory for analysis, which includes evaluation of volume, motility, sperm count, and morphology.
