• Avoid certain substances like caffeine and alcohol as recommended by your specialist beforehand. Many substances affect sperm motility and can therefore skew your semen analysis test results.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or supplements you’re taking. Certain medications can interfere with sperm motility and production.

What Should I Expect During Semen Analysis

A semen analysis is pretty straightforward. After arriving for your appointment, you’ll talk with the doctor and ask any questions you may have. Then you’ll be given a sterile container to collect your sample. This can be done in office or at home.

Once the sample has been provided, it will be labeled and sent to a laboratory for analysis, which includes evaluation of volume, motility, sperm count, and morphology.
